It seems as if Street Fighter V is turning into something of a reunion.

Sure, everyone remembers classics like Street Fighter II, but there are plenty of forgotten games, too: namely, the Street Fighter Alpha series. They were good games, they just came at a time when the genre was overinflated with all-too-similar games. Thankfully, it seems like much of Alpha's cast is getting a second chance to shine in Street Fighter V.

The latest Alpha recruit to join Street Fighter V's ever-expanding character roster is Karin: a high-class martial artist and one of the franchise's all-time most popular characters, despite her relatively small number of appearances. From a stylistic standpoint, she may seem a bit reserved (especially next to characters like Birdie), but that doesn't mean she can't hold her own against the rest of the Street Fighter roster.

For the most part, Karin is a mix of rushes and combos. She doesn't have much in the way of projectiles, but that's not necessarily an issue: using a brand-new dashing attack, Karin can close the gap between herself and an opponent in the blink of an eye. Plus, Karin's V-Skill neutralizes projectiles while allowing her to counterattack — basically, you won't have to worry about a Ryu player sitting in the corner and spamming Hadokens the whole time.

Karin's V-Trigger, on the other hand, is completely offensive: the Kanzuki-Ryu Guren No Kata opens up a ton of different combo options, including overhead strikes, command throws, quick hits, sweeps and counterattacks. Her V-Trigger essentially opens up a secondary set of extremely powerful, combo-ready attacks. If you're the kind of player who likes getting in close and absolutely annihiliating your opponents, Karin might just be for you.

Of course, Karin is only the latest in a long line of character reveals — and, considering that Street Fighter V is still a ways away from hitting store shelves, you can expect to see quite a few more fighters join the roster before release.

Street Fighter V is due out sometime early next year.
