An intriguing leak surfaced online, listing a number of HTC smartphones expected to get the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow and HTC Sense 7.0.

Google has been teasing its new Android M for a good while now and the latest version of the popular mobile operating system should make its debut later this month.

Each year, Google unleashes a new version of Android, along with new Nexus devices to showcase the new OS features. This year, the company is expected to unveil two new Nexus smartphones: the Nexus 5X made in collaboration with LG and the Nexus 6P developed in collaboration with Huawei. The two new Nexus smartphones will launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, serving as the launch vehicles for Google's latest mobile OS.

Once Android 6.0 Marshmallow officially hits the surface on board the new Nexus handsets, it will start rolling out as an update to other devices as well. Each new Android version typically rolls out to the Nexus lineup of devices first, then makes its way to Google Play Edition versions of devices, and only after that it starts rolling out to other non-Nexus and non-GPE devices from other OEM.

This means that once Android 6.0 Marshmallow launches with the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P it should start rolling out to other devices in the Nexus family, such as the existing Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and others.

It's not just Nexus owners and fans, however, who are eagerly waiting for the latest OS. Virtually all Android users with a newer device are wondering when Android 6.0 Marshmallow will become available as an update, and one tipster has some news for HTC smartphone owners.

HTC has yet to make an official announcement regarding when it plans to start rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its devices, or which handsets will be the lucky recipients, but tipster LlabTooFeR claims to have some information in this regard.

LlabTooFeR posted a list of HTC smartphones expected to get Android 6.0 and HTC Sense 7.0, mentioning the HTC One M9, One M9+, One ME, One E9, One E9+, One M8, One M8s, One M8 EYE, One E8, HTC Desire EYE, Desire 816, Desire 820 and Desire 826, as well as the HTC Butterfly 2 and Butterfly 3.

In a subsequent comment, the tipster notes that this list is preliminary and some devices such as the HTC Desire 816 or others with insufficient internal storage may not get the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

It remains to be seen just which devices will actually get the latest Android version, or when the update will start rolling out. It's all still in the rumor state at this point, so make sure to take this leak with a grain of salt.
