Verizon will soon offer the HTC One Mini 2 to its customers and rename it the HTC One Remix. The smartphone has just passed through the FCC for certification to run on Verizon's LTE network.

Samsung can be credited with kick starting two trends in the smartphone world. The company's Galaxy Note phablets are designed for users who want large smartphone displays that border on small tablet territory. The company's Galaxy S4 Mini and upcoming Galaxy S5 Mini are designed to offer users a Samsung flagship design and features inside a miniaturized smartphone.

As Samsung's phablets and mini smartphones have proven to be popular with consumers, one of Samsung's biggest rivals, HTC entered the mini and phablet market last year with its HTC One Mini and HTC One Max. HTC's current flagship HTC One M8 has been one of the most popular smartphones this year and when I had the opportunity to review the handset, I gave it high marks and think it's currently the best smartphone on the market.

If there were one area that could be a turn off to some potential HTC One M8 owners, it would be its rather large size. HTC realizes this and introduced the HTC One Mini 2 in mid-May. The handset keeps many of the HTC One M8's best features, including its brushed anodized aluminum body and dual front-facing stereo speakers with HTC BoomSound.

We reported in early June that Verizon was going to offer the HTC One Mini 2 and renamed it as the HTC One Remix. The smartphone has just made its way through the FCC and could be a sign that the carrier is getting ready to officially launch the handset.

The Verizon HTC One Remix will sport a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 Super LCD2 Gorilla Glass 3 display with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi). It's powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM. HTC has included 16GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128GB microSD cards.

The HTC One Remix's camera capabilities include a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front facing camera for video chat and selfies. The smartphone ships with a 2110 mAh battery that will provide up to 16 hours of talk time.

Now that the Verizon HTC One Remix has passed through the FCC, we should be hearing something from HTC and Verizon very soon.
