Good news, Mad Max fans. Director George Miller and Warner Bros. aren't just talking about one sequel to the summer success story that was Mad Max: Fury Road, they are discussing two.

Miller recently sat down with the folks at Top Gear to talk more Mad Max, revealing that two different films are currently being talked about with Warner Bros.

"We ended up with two scripts, without really trying," Miller says. "We're talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I'm not so sure."

Miller goes on to talk about Fury Road's long and troubled production history before diving into what would have been different about a 2001 version of Mad Max: Fury Road.

"This film [Fury Road] was green lit three times and fell over three times over a decade," Miller says. "We went to shoot with Mel Gibson back in 2001, but then 9/11 happened, and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar close to 30 per cent, so we lost that amount of budget overnight.

"We were then rained out of Australia," Miller says. "The desert rained for the first time in 15 years, and we ended up in South West Africa, Namibia. But in this process, we had dug down deep into the backstory, not only of the characters, but of every vehicle. How the steering wheels became religious artefacts and things like that."

As for when fans can expect the next installment in the franchise? Probably not any time soon. Miller says the eight month filming of in the heat and the dust was a gruelling process, one that he needs a break from. He will return to the franchise after working on a smaller, less special effects heavy film, he says.

"We shot Fury Road for eight months... that's a lot," he says. "Every day in the heat and the dust, doing these stunts, it's very wearing. We've got two more planned, but at some point in the future."

If you need more Mad Max in your life right now, you can always check out the recently released video game. Otherwise it might be a while before Max makes his grand return.
