Lights are usually a big part of concerts, helping excite the audience and offer visual stimulation to go along with the music. Normally, however, there's an engineer in charge of controlling the lights during a concert.

Electronic band Neon Indian, however, took to a different technique recently, using Microsoft's Kinect to capture the band's movements and turn those movements into a pretty trippy light show behind the band members.

The experimentation took place during the performance of a song called "The Glitzy Hive," which is from its latest album, VEGA INTL. Night School.

The Microsoft Kinect has been used in a number of different applications, however, it's interesting to see someone taking a more artistic approach to the camera. Neon Indian will be using the new system at a range of its shows during its upcoming tour, so you can head to the show to get a better sense of how it all works.

The system itself was created by a creative agency located in New York called Listen.

Check out the video below for a demonstration of the Kinect being used to control the band's light show. In the video, you might be able to spot the Kinect placed around the room.
