Amazon Video is now available on Roku streaming players in the UK, adding a slew of movies and TV shows so Roku owners have greater access to content.

UK Roku owners have been waiting for quite a long time to get access to Amazon's vast trove of content and that day has finally come. With Amazon Video now on board, Roku owners now get roughly 50,000 different shows and movies.

The streaming set-top boxes from U.S.-based Roku are widely popular, as they allow users with a reliable Internet connection to stream movies and TV shows seamlessly.

"We know how much you like to catch up with all the latest and most popular movies and TV episodes, so we're excited to announce that Amazon Video is now available on all Roku streaming players in the UK," touts the announcement.

Roku owners in the UK can now purchase or rent various titles, including "The Walking Dead" Season 5, "Game of Thrones" Season 5, "Taken 3," "Minions," "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and many more.

At the same time, Roku owners in the UK can also enjoy Amazon Prime instant video if they have a Prime subscription. Prime members get 15,000 different movies and videos for free, including some original content from Amazon.

Through the Roku Channel Store, Amazon Video now offers access to a wide variety of channels including Demand 5, BBC iPlayer, All 4, ITV Player and others. Subscription services such as NOW TV, Sky Store, Google Play Movies and Netflix are in the mix as well.

Perhaps one of the most exciting perks of Amazon Video access on Roku is the availability of a number of American TV shows that fans in the UK might not get access to otherwise.

Connecting a Roku streaming set-top box to your Amazon account to enjoy Amazon Instant Video is simple and straightforward, but those who need help with the process can watch a comprehensive video from Amazon and follow the instructions there.

The addition of Amazon Video to Roku streaming players comes at a crucial time, with the launch of the new Apple TV expected to pose some serious competition to Roku. The new Apple TV raised plenty of interest, but it doesn't have an Amazon app.
