T-Mobile rather sneakily hiked up the price of its unlimited data plan at its Un-Carrier event yesterday, taking the opportunity to raise prices while everyone was excited about announcements like Binge On, which exempts video streaming services like Netflix and HBO from data plans.

The company will now charge $45 for unlimited data, which is up from the $30 that it was before. What that means is that a single line on the Simple Choice plan will cost $95 with unlimited data.

In exchange for the price hike, T-Mobile says that it will double the amount of data that customers can use for a mobile hotspot, bringing the amount up to 14 GB from 7 GB. The change will take effect on Nov. 15, and current customers are exempt from the changes. Current customers who want their mobile hotspot limit doubled can choose to pay the extra $15 for the new plan.

The move is interesting considering the fact that CEO John Legere made it a point at the event to speak out against T-Mobile's competitors for preying on customers with things like overage charges.

If you're not interested in unlimited data, there is some good news. Plans that don't have unlimited data will now have more data for the same price. Previously, users who paid $50 per month would get 1 GB of data, however, that amount is now doubled to 2 GB. $65 will get the user 6 GB of data, and $80 will get the user 10 GB of data. Existing customers will get the new data amounts without having to do anything.
