In Gotham City, nothing is ever black or white, and sometimes, even a good man must make allies with the underbelly of the city to protect the greater good. This is the challenge Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) faces on Gotham, and next week sees him working with these unlikely allies to take down the city's biggest bad guy, Theo Galavan (James Frain).

In a new trailer promoting next week's episode of Gotham, which also serves as the series' fall finale, Jim and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) must work together to rid the city of Galavan and his lackeys.

As we've seen in previous episodes, Galavan is actually a member of the Dumas family, and has brought the Order of St. Dumas into Gotham to reclaim the city as their own and take down the "son of Gotham."

Of course, that son is Bruce Wayne, because the Waynes are the reason the Dumas family no longer has any power in the city.

The trailer shows Jim making a choice to work with villains: the clip shows the police officer marching into battle with Penguin and his crew with Penguin stating, "If there was ever a time for us to work together, now is that time."

The finale will likely end in a cliffhanger that won't get resolved until next year, but it will also set certain plot points in place for the last half of Gotham's second season.

"A lot of this storyline will be tied up," said Jessica Lucas, who plays Tabitha Galavan on the series, to IGN. "But it will also represent new beginnings for some people. It's also going to lead into the introductions of some new characters like Victor Fries and Hugo Strange, who'll be a big part of the second half of the season."

Gotham cast its Hugo Strange earlier this year, with the role going to B.D. Wong. The secret lab at Arkham Asylum associated with the villain got a mention in a previous episode, so his first appearance could serve as a good tease of things to come in the fall finale.

The series also cast its Victor Fries, with actor Nathan Darrow nabbing the role. Fries is known more often by his villain name, Mr. Freeze.

However, don't expect things to get tied up with the Order of St. Dumas in the fall finale. Gotham executive producer John Stephens confirmed with TVLine that the storyline involving the Order will carry over into the second half the season.

Gotham airs on Fox on Monday nights.
