Previously, using Periscope (Twitter’s service for live-streaming video) meant awkwardly handling your phone to capture whatever event. That’s still true, but those folks with a GoPro Hero4 camera now have the option of streaming from the camera’s feed instead, thanks to a new collaboration between the two companies.

Starting today, GoPro’s Hero4 Black and Silver camera can connect directly to Periscope after a few simple taps via iPhone. All users need to do is connect to the GoPro’s Wi-Fi while the camera’s in video mode, open Periscope on iOS and tap broadcast, add a title, and start streaming. Periscope’s FAQ section goes into greater detail on how to set it all up so that everything works seamlessly together, but those are the broad strokes.

That is, of course, the rub. This integration is currently only compatible with iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus with iOS 8.2. That’s for doing the broadcast - folks on any platform can actually view one. But that does leave Android out in the cold for the time being, assuming this functionally eventually comes to other operating systems.

This isn’t the first time that Periscope for iOS has been the guinea pig of upcoming developments for the platform. There’s a better-than-good chance that this GoPro integration being iOS only for the time being is a direct result of the iOS Twitter app being the testing ground for direct Periscope streaming in Twitter timelines.

GoPro’s going to be pushing Periscope streams from athletes out at X Games Aspen 2016 starting Wednesday, Jan. 27. Scheduled streams include ones from the likes of Jamie Anderson in snowboard slopestyle and Tom Wallisch in skiing slopestyle, GoPro brand manager Chris Farro, and many more. Also on the docket is an afternoon stream from a dog, which is sure to be the highlight of the whole event.
