Some Android users have been encountering issues with Gmail syncing for a good while now, but Google is finally getting ready to roll out a fix next week.

The Gmail sync issues seem to be quite widespread, with numerous users reporting that they received notifications late (or not at all). The sync issues reportedly affect both Gmail and Inbox by Gmail.

At the same time, it seems the sync issue affects mostly Nexus device users running Android Marshmallow. Nexus 6P complaints, for instance, recently starting to pile up, and the buggy Marshmallow update was among the most commonly reported problems.

On the other hand, although Marshmallow devices seemed to be the most affected by this issue, there were also reports of other devices on different Android builds that encountered the same Gmail sync problems.

While we have no clear information on how Google plans to fix other Marshmallow or Nexus 6P problems, we do have news on the Gmail sync issue.

An updated Gmail 5.10 rolled out roughly two weeks ago, but it only fixed sync issues for Hotmail accounts and not Gmail ones. Google's team was still looking into the matter at the time, so it was unclear when a fix would eventually roll out.

Googler Orrin now sheds some light on the matter, taking to the Nexus Help Forum to reveal that a Gmail sync bug fix is ready to roll out globally within the next few days. The respective AOSP issue tracker item also appears marked as a "Future Release," further confirming that it's about to roll out soon.

"Thanks again for your patience on this while the team investigated the issue," writes Orrin. "I'm happy to announce that a fix has started to roll out. This fix requires no action, and will roll out globally over the next week."

The fix will not arrive in the form of an OTA system update or something of the sorts, Orrin further explains. Users will simply notice that Gmail sync is no longer an issue, and will not have to take any action themselves.

In the meantime, some users found that turning off the Doze feature found on Android 6.0 Marshmallow resolved the Gmail sync issue. This temporary workaround did not work for everyone, however, so it's best to just wait for Google's quiet fix to roll out and patch things up.
