Apple released the fifth OS X 10.11.4 beta through the company's Developer Center for developers and at the Mac App Store through its Software Update mechanism for both developers and public beta testers.

The latest beta version, which comes as build 15E56a, is released following the fourth seeding on the OS X 10.11.4 beta a week ago, and more than a month after Apple launched OS X 10.11.3.

The company started testing its OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan on Jan. 11.

The fifth seeding of version 10.11.4 offers to bring a number of new features as well as bug fixes for OS X El Capitan. These include Live Photos sharing in Messages, password protection in Notes and the added functionality of importing notes from third-party note-taking apps such as Evernote.

The updated version also allows OS X users to add .rtf and .txt files into the app using iCloud to sync data back to iPads, iPhones and the Web.

The Live Photos feature also covers sharing photos that were taken on Apple devices such as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

"A Mac will work with your iPhone in ways no other computer can," says Apple. "You can make and receive iPhone calls on your Mac, even if your iPhone is in another room. Send and receive both iMessage and SMS text messages on your Mac. Start an email, document or browsing session on one device and instantly pick it up on another. And turn on the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone right from you Mac so you can get online in an instant."

The latest beta version is also expected to perform certain under-the-hood bug fixes and performance enhancements. These include resolving the issue of a Safari glitch where Twitter links appear shortened, enhancing Mac stability, security and compatibility, as well as adding focus on iBooks, Photos, Notes and Messages.

Public testers should at least be registered with the company's Beta Software Program for them to download the version through the site. Current beta participants are advised to get a Software Update in order to begin testing.

OS X 10.11.4 is speculated to launch in spring. Other awaited offerings from Apple include tvOS 9.2, iOS 9.3 and watchOS 2.2, which are all expected to be released on March 21 following the company's rumored unveiling event.
