Pumping out nearly 1,500 roaring horsepower, the Bugatti Chiron might just take the checkered flag for being the most-turbocharged hypercar at the 86th Annual Geneva International Motor Show. But it's not alone in the elite hypercar space.

That's because perhaps a close second is the Gumpert Apollo Arrow. Now under Chinese ownership, Gumpert as Apollo is back with this living, breathing, monstrous Apollo Arrow. The car boasts 1,000 horsepower courtesy of its 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine, which is coincidentally supplied by Audi, as reported by Autocar U.K. Pretty cool that Audi is behind this engine, allowing the brand to further flex its auto muscle with this placement.

The Apollo Arrow reaches zero to 62 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds flat, with a top speed of 224 mph.

The Verge spoke with the hypercar's two designers, as they vowed that the 2017 production car will look just as exotic as the protoype, which is already dropping jaws at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The two designers — yes, there are only two — additionally told the website that the Arrow's sporty exterior was inspired by the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter plane and sharks.

Despite Gumpert being under new ownership and now being called Apollo, its engineering continues to be led by Roland Gumpert. That's key, considering the brand continues to push the envelope when it comes to its aerodynamics-defying output.

Interestingly enough, the Arrow was able to achieve more functionality than hypercars under the brand's umbrella in the past. How? Well, by making the 120-liter fuel tank smaller and remodeling the chassis' front component, the Apollo Arrow's cabin was widened enough to seat a driver up to 6 feet 5 inches tall, according to reports.

The Verge says that the Arrow will eventually include standard conveniences such as air conditioning, ABS, powered windows and electronic stability control — features that drivers of regular vehicles take for granted, but are tougher to accommodate within hypercars like this.

After Bugatti's Chiron and Lamborghini's Centenario, auto enthusiasts would be hard-pressed to find a vehicle more charged up at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show than this. What a return for Gumpert.

Gumpert hasn't designated a price for the Arrow just yet, but it's an elite hypercar, so it won't come cheap.
