A perfect marriage of smartphones and dictation recorders, SpeechAir is the latest gadget by Philips in collaboration with Speech Processing Solutions.

Targeted at busy professionals, such as doctors and lawyers who travel frequently and work from remote locations, the device's built-in functions eliminate the need to "wait until [the users are] back in the office to transfer their data."

SpeechAir runs on Android and sports a touchscreen and a camera, along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi transfer options. The shock-proof Corning Gorilla glass cover lends the device the ability to survive in the toughest of environments. It also supports easy integration into other workflow solutions, especially into Philips-supported ones such as Cloud-service SpeechLive, and enables developers to install their own apps. Users can directly access data by configuring SpeechAir that connects with relevant dictation recordings.

The company claims the device supports the latest technology that includes three professional microphones designed for producing the best sound quality under any recording circumstances. The 360 degree microphone is best for recording dictations and meetings, while the directional microphone provides noise-cancelation support. The third one supports VoIP calls.

For data protection, SpeechAir offers AES, 256-bit to encrypt all recordings in real time. Additionally, the device can secure itself via PIN or password, and it comes with camera locking and W-Fi restricting controls as well. The device camera is ideal for snapping quick pictures and it doubles up as a barcode scanner. With a long-lasting battery, SpeechAir seems to be offering a great package of flexibility, mobility and multi-functionality.

However, it's a bit of a gray area as to how far Philips plans to go with this device, and whether or not its targeted market will make the speech recording device a successful launch. Currently, it hasn't listed any pricing against the product, but helps you get in touch with a local retailer residing near your area.
