The Battleborn panel has released exclusive information during this year's PAX East conference on a Borderlands 3 title coming soon.

In a statement, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed speculations that the next installment of the company's Borderlands franchise is under works. It's been about two years since the last title was released in 2014, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

"It's no secret, obviously, there's going to be another Borderlands," Pitchford said.

In the past year, Pitchford had been mum about specific details on the next installment, only saying that he wasn't sure if the game would be carrying the title, Borderlands 3.

Mikey Neumann and Scott Kester, writer and art director of previous Borderlands titles, respectively, will be taking part in the project as well.

When asked about what the plotline will be for the next installment, Neumann joked that all the characters would die horribly.

A grim joke, but one that is prevalent through the Borderlands series.

The game franchise has been well-received for its action-packed, first-person shooter gameplay, unique art style, and its own "silly" take on humor. About 12 million copies have been sold since its debut, back in 2009.

Neumann then goes on to detail that Scooter might possibly be referenced in the upcoming title, who'd been a character from Telltales' spinoff series, Tales from the Borderlands.

The plan is to include Scooter's "illegitimate/legitimate" son, Scooper, in the next title, if the plan does push through, as Pitchford warns that this is just a "maybe." Scooper will supposedly be a high-pitched version of Scooter.

Pitchford does add that the upcoming Battleborn DLC will reportedly contain Easter eggs for the next Borderlands title. The developers encourage players to keep their eyes peeled for the hidden clues.

In other news, Battleborn is set to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One this coming May 3. The developers note that about 2 million players had tried out the open beta, with one gamer playing as much as 368 matches in a period of 10 days.
