Earlier in May, the grapevine was abuzz that some Star Wars: Battlefront fans from Russia were working on a remake of the third installment of the game dubbed Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil, which was never released.

On Saturday, June 4, however, Frontwire Studios confirmed that the unofficial Star Wars Battlefront 3 aka Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil is set to see the light of day. The developers have inked a deal with Valve, which has agreed to host the title on Steam.

"It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil. After ongoing discussion between Valve representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to its millions of users for FREE," noted Tony Romanelli, president of Frontwire.

The news will be welcomed by fans of the title as in the past, Frontwire Studios had disclosed that the release of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 may not be possible due to Star Wars licensing and intellectual property (IP) issues.

However, thanks to a recent breakthrough, the game will now make its way to Steam for free. Fans of the franchise have been concerned that since Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil is unlicensed and uses the IP for Star Wars, Disney will attempt to shut it down. These concerns are shared by Romanelli but he is not excessively worried, only having "mild concerns" that cross his mind "from time to time."

He asserted that Valve believes in the project and does not seem concerned as it has agreed to publish Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil. This decision will allow the developer not only to grow, but also to ensure the durability of Galaxy in Turmoil, as well as the gaming community.

Romanelli is optimistic that Valve, in tandem with Frontwire Studios and those who have reservations, will be able to manage this feat successfully. The fact that the game will be free and that Frontwire will not generate any revenue from it could be the key to the title's release.

The Frontwire Studios president also shared a picture of the Steam page for Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil. However, it doesn't seem to have gone live on Steam at the time of writing.

The developer did not give a release window for the game, so we will have to wait and watch!
