It's no secret Nintendo is looking to get into the movie business. For a while there were even rumors that the house of Mario would partner with Netflix for a Legend of Zelda television series, a series described as a young adult version of HBO's popular Game of Thrones.

That didn't actually come to pass, but the idea of a Legend of Zelda movie or TV show is still one of the most exciting pieces of Nintendo's future plans. It will likely be a while before those plans actually come to fruition, but in the meantime fans are making the wait a little easier by crafting some truly stellar labors of love.

Like this Majora's Mask fan film, for example. Though the entire film isn't available yet, a short teaser trailer arrived for the project last month and completely flew under the radar (it released just as E3 started). Now fans are taking notice of the trailer, and it looks incredible.

The project comes from game and animation studio EmberLab and musician Theophany. Together, they have crafted a Majora's Mask trailer that is every bit as unsettling, mysterious and beautiful as the game it's based on. The trailer puts the spotlight on Skull Kid and the game's mysterious mask salesman, two of the most unique (and creepy) characters in Legend of Zelda history.

It's not much to go on as far as trailers go, but it looks oh-so-promising. The animation is top-notch, and as previously stated, the trailer perfectly captures everything that makes Majora's Mask by far the most unique game in the entire Legend of Zelda franchise. Check it out for yourself below.

No word yet when fans can expect the full short film to arrive, but hopefully it will be finished sooner rather than later. In the meantime, Theophany has an entire Majora's Mask album that is required listening for Zelda fans, and should be a good indication of what to expect from the music in the film.

In other news, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild proved to be one of the most talked-about games during this year's E3, which is probably why Zelda fans at first missed this trailer. It was at E3 where Nintendo showed off footage of the new, fully open-world Zelda game for the first time, and it looks all kinds of incredible. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be arriving for the Wii U and Nintendo NX next year.
