Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare could be the first step of many into a mini series of titles inspired by it, should game director Taylor Kurosaki put his plans into practice.

Polygon talked to Kurosaki, who stated that a new sub-franchise of the famous first-person-shooter is in the concept stage. The game director is convinced that Infinite Warfare constitutes a solid foundation for multiple upcoming titles.

"We're trying to develop a very rich world that we're not even close to exhausting," he affirms.

Kurosaki makes it clear that Infinite Warfare is anything but a reboot. He explains that using the term comes with negative connotations. He goes on to say that Infinite Warfare is a new approach to the series similar to Modern Warfare or Black Ops.

Kurosaki has been with Infinity Ward (the creators of Call of Duty) since 2014, with prior experience in the team of The Last of Us, which was developed by gaming company Naughty Dog.

Despite shying away from an explicit rant, Kurosaki was disappointed by how Call of Duty: Ghosts turned out. Even loyalists of the series saw Ghosts as a hard to explain bump in the road, which featured the addition of a canine companion and ... that's about it. Also, it should be mentioned that the game was the first in the series to land on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Meanwhile, both Black Ops and Modern Warfare have a long and interesting history to boot, which makes players appreciate the installments as a solid part of the world of Call of Duty.

Kurosaki's ambition is to make Infinite Warfare a major shift, and the starting point of a franchise-within-a-franchise that can grow on its own.

He acknowledges that the full team at Infinity Ward had a hard time switching from World War II themes to contemporary warfare. Everything is different, from vehicles, weapons, AI. The game director underlines that Infinite Warfare's sci-fi perspective attempts to recreate the departure from a classic recipe that made Modern Warfare a hit.

Gamers will be able to play Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare starting Nov. 4, on all major gaming platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Pop culture fans should know that Kit Harrington voices the villain. What is more, the game is purportedly packing a fan-favorite trapping such as a zombie mode ... in zero gravity, no less.

Only time will tell if his project will shape up in a positive way, but we will keep you posted.
