A new speed test pits the OnePlus 3T against the Huawei Mate 9 Pro to see which smartphone is quicker.

The test was conducted by PhoneBuff, which put the two Android-powered handsets through the paces in a bid to show consumers which handset is the better bet. The test was shared in a YouTube video.

"Speed test between two of the fastest Android phones in the world in the OnePlus 3T and the Huawei Mate 9 Pro to see which one is faster," notes the YouTube video description.

Both of the devices in question have somewhat similar specs and it was expected to be a close competition. Both the phones come with 6 GB of RAM and Android Nougat.

The test had two rounds. In the first round a set of apps mainly related to social media, gaming, browsing and streaming were launched on both devices. The time it took to load the apps and to finally start them were noted.

The second round pertained to reopening the already launched apps all at once and recording the time it took the apps to start. This round was of course designed to put the RAM under stress.

How Did They Perform?

In the first round, the OnePlus 3T stumbles when the games are opened when compared to the Huawei Mate 9 Pro. The Huawei device performed admirably on this parameter. The OnePlus 3T, on the other hand, did well while launching standard apps like the camera and the photo gallery.

In the second round though, the Mate 9 Pro has trouble while reopening the games running in the background. Fit the Fat game causes a lot of trouble for the Mate 9 Pro as it cannot reopen this title easily. The OnePlus 3T cruises ahead in this round and faces no issue while opening the apps again.

Although this particular test by PhoneBuff favors the OnePlus 3T's performance, it must be said that neither of these devices can be considered slow.

In light of recent reports that OnePlus was cheating on benchmarking apps, the benchmark results cannot be relied upon. However, this test though was performed without the use of benchmarking apps giving a clearer picture about the real quality of the OnePlus 3T device.

The Specs

Both phones possess impressive features and state of the art innovative technology. The 6 GB of RAM is especially commendable as there are very few devices providing such powerful support.

The OnePlus 3T boasts a Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and a 5.5-inch FHD display (1920 x 1080 pixels). It also comes with an Adreno 530 GPU.

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro features an octa-core Kirin 960 processor and a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560x1440) curved AMOLED Display. The smartphone deploys Mali-G71 MP8 GPU.
