Customers who preordered Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for their Nintendo Switch via Amazon are growing upset, and they have ample reason to be: the retail site has failed to deliver the game on time, according to a number of reports.

Amazon Delays 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' Preorders

Many, especially Prime members, decided to buy the game from Amazon because the site offers a 20 percent discount for those who preorder or buy the game within a two-week period after launch. But Amazon is now brimmed with issues about fulfilling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shipments.

The game was supposed to arrive on Friday, April 28, the same time when it hits retail shelves. Others, however, are reporting that Amazon won't ship customers' Mario Kart 8 Deluxe copies until the next day. So what happened?

Well, it appears Amazon faced a "a rare inventory issue," which caused all orders for the racing game to be delayed. Saying that "all" orders were delayed, however, might not entirely be accurate.

Other individuals, for instance, have received their copies already, according to Polygon. Still, the delay seems to be common among many who preordered the game via Amazon.

Reports say that Amazon is handing out one month's extension of Prime membership for those who are complaining about the stock issue, while others also note that it's giving refunds to some customers and letting them keep the copy if it shows up on their doorstep the next day.

Even so, customers are upset that Amazon didn't call out a warning that there would be delays. One of the benefits of preordering a game through the site, apart from the 20 percent Prime discount, is that the game arrives on the same day it's released in brick-and-mortar stores.

Not The First Time For Amazon To Delay Preorders

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened. Amazon has a developed a knack for shipping delays, most recently by delaying preorders for the Switch, Nintendo's brand-new hybrid console released early March.

Fallout 4 shipments, back when it released in 2015, were similarly delayed, with a gaggle of upset users fuming at Amazon's warehouse issues.

Amazon needs to step up its shipping game lest it ends up convincing users to retire their Prime subscription or turn to another retailer for their preorders altogether. It's good that the company is offering incentives for its mishap, but that shouldn't have to be the case always.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has now been released. It is a slightly refreshed version of Mario Kart 8, which was released in 2014 for the Wii U.

Available exclusively for the Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundles together all karts, racers, and tracks found on the Wii U iteration, and throws in a few additions into the mix. It is the first Mario Kart title ever released for the Switch, although many fans expect Nintendo to make another one specifically for the system, not a refreshed port.
