Those fortunate enough to secure a SNES Classic Edition preorder from Amazon are now receiving some bad news. It appears Amazon has been sending out notifications informing customers it won't be able to deliver all SNES Classic Edition orders on time.

Several publications have confirmed Amazon did send out an email, although it remains uncertain how many orders will be delayed.

Amazon Delays SNES Classic Edition Preorders

"We recently learned that we may miss your delivery promise and apologize for the inconvenience," reads the message, as GameSpot reports. Amazon did confirm, however, that it's not canceling the orders, just delaying them. It did not say why orders will be delayed, but at least the company didn't pull a Walmart.

Walmart, by contrast, opened up SNES Classic Edition preorders and was met with an influx of customers. It sold out almost immediately, which wasn't a surprise. Shortly thereafter, Walmart began sending notifications to some customers that their order was canceled. Then, each SNES Classic Edition preorder got canceled, because the truth was, Walmart didn't have any in stock but went ahead and let everyone preorder anyway.

The folks who managed to preorder the SNES Classic Edition from Amazon will have to sit tight until the end of September and beyond. You won't get your mini console at launch day, but at least you won't have to search far and wide to get one — just be a bit patient. It's certainly frustrating, though, even more so considering the fact that Amazon has done this in the past many times.

Currently, preorders for the SNES Classic Edition are sold out, which indicates Nintendo might have another stock problem on its hands. The NES Classic Edition, by contrast, was met with overwhelming demand. Too much, in fact, that Nintendo simply couldn't keep up. It later canceled the product altogether and admitted it gets consumer demand wrong sometimes.

This time might be better. Nintendo has promised to produce significantly more SNES Classic Edition than its predecessor. Then again, the company also confirmed it will only manufacture the console until the "end of calendar year 2017." That doesn't mean, however, that Nintendo will stop manufacturing it at that point. Still, Nintendo often makes baffling decisions.

SNES Classic Edition

The SNES Classic Edition is a mini version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, released in the '90s. Players can enjoy 21 preloaded games, including Star Fox 2, which marks the first time it'll be released officially. Whereas the NES Classic Edition only came with a single controller, the SNES Classic Edition comes with two, so you don't have to buy a separate controller to enjoy two-player mode. It launches on Sept. 29 for $79.99.
