Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or FDA issued a warning to dog owners that processed bone treats could kill their pets or cause internal wounds or diarrhea, to name a few.

That said, these aren't the only things to look out for since numerous people foods are harmful to dogs too, and in light of the event, it's worth taking note of what they are.

Unsafe Food For Dogs

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or ASPCA, the most toxic foods include not only painfully obvious kinds such as alcohol but also seemingly innocuous ones such as salt, milk, and raw eggs.

• Avocado

Avocados are capable of making their own fungicide called persin, but dogs are allergic to them. Some people are allergic to them too, for the record.

• Alcohol

Dogs shouldn't ingest any amount of alcohol no matter what, as it can cause inflictions such as diarrhea and vomiting, put them into a coma, or even lead to death.

• Caffeine

Everybody knows that coffee contains the stimulant caffeine, and when it enters a dog's system, it'll bring about muscle tremors and heart palpitations. What's more, it contains methylxanthine, a substance deadly to pets.

• Chocolate

Just like coffee, chocolate contains methylxanthine. Needless to say, it'll cause more or less the same dangers as caffeine.

Now the harmful substance is found in cacao seeds, and to put two and two together, the darker the chocolate, the more detrimental it is.

• Milk

Milk and other dairy products can cause diarrhea or other stomach problems because dogs have only a small amount of the enzyme used to break down the lactose in them.

• Citrus

Dogs should steer clear of citrus plants and their fruits and seeds, as they contain citric acid that causes central nervous system depression, though that'll occur only when they consume large amounts of it.

• Coconut

The oils found in the flesh and milk of coconuts can cause diarrhea, loose stool, or other digestive issues.

• Nuts

Similar to coconuts, the oil and fats in nuts can cause diarrhea and vomiting, but what's worse is they can develop pancreatitis.

• Onions, Garlics, And Chives

These plants can cause anemia in pets by damaging their red blood cells if consumed in great quantities.

• Salt

Salt can dehydrate dogs, have them urinating excessively, and even kill them, though the pets will have to ingest large amounts of it before that happens.

• Gum, Candy, Etc.

Gum, candy, and other sweet products typically contain xylitol, a substance that can cause liver failure in dogs.

• Yeast Dough

The problem with yeast dough is that it can cause gas in dogs, so much so that it'll lead to bloating their stomachs and twist them, which could kill them.

• Raw Eggs And Meat

Both dogs and people are susceptible to the adverse effects of raw eggs and meat, as they contain salmonella and E. coli.

• Bones

Dogs and bones are seemingly the perfect combination, even robotic versions have the treat tied to them.

However, that applies only to dogs in the wild. Domesticated ones are at risk of choking on the bones — regardless whether it's raw or not — and even have splinters get stuck in their throats or puncture their digestive tracts.
