The GoPro Hero 7 was unveiled with three models, with the flagship version coming with a supposedly groundbreaking feature known as HyperSmooth stabilization.

The latest update to the Go Pro action cameras were leaked earlier this month through a store display. The GoPro Hero 7 has now been officially announced, and customers are now thinking whether or not to upgrade to the new GoPro camera.

GoPro Hero 7 Black With HyperSmooth Stabilization

The Go Pro Hero 7 Black is the premium model of the new GoPro action cameras, with a price tag of $399. It is very similar to its predecessor, the Go Pro Hero 6 Black, as it comes with the same 12 MP sensor, the same custom GP 1 processor but with a small increase in RAM, and the same recording capabilities of 4K video at 60 fps, 2K video at 120 fps, and 1080p video at 240 fps. It also keeps the 10-meter depth for waterproofing, GPS location tracking, and livestreaming option.

The biggest upgrade with the GoPro Hero 7 Black is a feature named HyperSmooth stabilization, which GoPro claims will work like a mechanical hardware gimbal to smooth out videos that are taken when in motion. However, the feature is still software-based, with a built-in gyroscope in the action camera used to digitally remove movements in the recording, which likely means that videos will be cropped.

The GoPro Hero 7 Black will be released globally on Sept. 27 and in the United States on Sept. 30.

GoPro Hero 7 Silver And White

GoPro also announced the GoPro Hero 7 Silver and GoPro Hero 7 White, which will be sold at $299 and $199, respectively.

Compared to the GoPro Hero 7 Black, these two models do not come with the GP1 sensor and HyperSmooth stabilization, with a smaller 10 MP sensor. In addition, the GoPro Hero 7 Silver can only take up to 4K at 30 fps, while the GoPro Hero 7 White can only take up to 1440p at 60 fps. The two models also do not come with the LCD status screen at the front.

The Future Of GoPro

In an interview with The Verge, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman revealed that the three 2018 GoPro Hero cameras will be the only ones that the company will sell for the foreseeable future. The company is also apparently thinking about dropping certain accessories, possibly including the handheld Karma Grip stabilizer now that HyperSmooth stabilization has arrived.

The GoPro Hero 7 Black, along with its Silver and White counterparts, offer a new sense of optimism for GoPro, after its recent difficulties such as the failure of the Karma drone. It remains to be seen, however, if the new cameras will indeed help turn around the company's fortunes.
