Amazon has released a rather peculiar product that's part of its Alexa line. It's called the Echo Wall Clock, part of a range of minimalist devices the company announced this year, which include a smart microwave and an outlet plug.

Similar to some of those devices, the Echo Wall Clock features Alexa integration. However, it doesn't actually have a built-in microphone, which means it can't accept voice commands and process them standalone. Instead, the clock is meant to be paired with an Echo device, and once linked, it can do a number of things, such as set timers, alarms, and reminders through voice commands.

Amazon Echo Wall Clock

Ultimately, the Echo Wall Clock is pretty simplistic. It's designed to look just like any run-of-the-mill wall clock and runs on four regular AA batteries. It needs to be synced to an Echo device, though, a setup that requires both Bluetooth and a Wi-Fi connection. That said, setting everything up is easy and straightforward — users can even use their voice to get it up and running, no need to pull their phone out.

Features

The clock features 60 LEDs around its face, which means users can look at multiple timers and alarms simultaneously. For now, the device is only available in a black colorway, which comes with a white bezel. There are currently no other options available, and Amazon has yet to announce whether more will come moving forward. The device also automatically adjusts for daylight saving time, and the package includes the necessary accessories for mounting the clock.

The Echo Wall Clock And The Overall Alexa Ecosystem

It's not clear how the Echo Wall Clock fits into the overall Alexa ecosystem. Even more unclear is what Amazon's expectations are for this product. Does the company want this to replace wall clocks? An ambitious feat, to be sure. Or perhaps Amazon simply wants to expand its smart home portfolio, and a wall clock that can communicate with Echo might be the next logical step in that direction.

What Devices Can It Be Paired With?

In any case, the Echo Wall Clock is available now for just $30. It works with practically all of Amazon's Echo lineup, including Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Plus, Echo Spot, and Echo Input.
