Microsoft has announced the Friends Play Free promo for Sea of Thieves, allowing players to invite up to three friends to play with them free of charge.

It takes just a few clicks to set things up too.

How To Play 'Sea Of Thieves' For Free

First things first, it doesn't matter whether you own a physical or digital copy or if you're playing with Xbox Game Pass, you're eligible to participate in the promotion.

Now all you have to do is go to the Sea of Thieves Friends Play Free page and log in with your Microsoft account. Next, click on the Get a Code buttons and scratch them to reveal keys you can share to your friends.

All that's left to do is share them with your friends — or in some cases, point one of your friends playing Sea of Thieves to this promo and ask them to share one to you.

Best part is, not only can friends of Sea of Thieves players get to play for free, but the promo is also throwing in a new voyage to complete and a new mercenary ship livery to boot.

Friends Play Free will run from Feb. 6 to 13. It's also worth mentioning that those who got a code can buy Sea of Thieves at a 35 percent discount from Feb. 6 to 27, which is just the thing if they got sold on the game during the free-to-play promo.

Perfect Update Timing

The promo coincides with a Feb. 6 update that reduces the installation size of the game as well. The total storage space it needs is going down from 35 GB to 10 GB for the Xbox One, from 47 GB to 25 GB for the Xbox One X, and from 47 GB to 27 GB for the PC running Windows 10.

Needless to say, this is just perfect to go with the Friends Play Free promotion.

Sea of Thieves launched back in March 2018, and it costs $59.99. Also, it requires an Xbox Live Gold membership to play on either the Xbox One or PC.
