For the first time ever, Apple will streaming its iPhone 11 event on YouTube on Sept. 10. To date, Apple has never used the popular video broadcasting platform as a way to stream any of its events, meaning this will effectively break that streak.

There's no clear reason why Apple is making this decision, but one thing is for sure — it will greatly expand the number of people that can watch Apple's event stream.

Apple Event Streams

This isn't the first time Apple has relied on external channels to stream its event. Last year, the Cupertino brand extended its iPhone event stream to Twitter, and the company seems to be gradually increasing the spread of its stream in recent years. Back in 2015, Apple extended access to the stream to Windows 10 users via Microsoft's Edge browser. The company's events used to be limited to either Safari and Edge on desktop, but last year, Apple decided to open them up to Chrome and Firefox.

It's not really clear why Apple kept the gates to its events closed for such a long time, although there's reason to believe it might be to uphold its reputation of exclusivity, a long-standing element of its brand, though one that's less relevant now. These days, exposure is vital for a company to find its audience. Apple isn't exactly the kind of company that needs more exposure, as the brand remains highly ubiquitous, but streaming the events to more channels will allow more people to watch, and in turn, potentially purchase whatever products Apple intends to showcase there.

What To Expect

Apple is expected to unveil a number of new products, chief of them this year's crop of iPhones, which rumors say are called iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, arranged in ascending order of price and specs. The iPhone 11 is pegged to be this year's iPhone XR, as in the cheapest iPhone of the bunch.

Apart from new iPhones, Apple is expected to unveil a new Apple Watch variant, new iPads, and a new 16-inch MacBook Pro. Make sure to check back with Tech Times as we learn more.
