Amazon is introducing a new Kindle and Fire tablet made for kids, aptly called the Kindle Kids Edition and All-New Fire HD 10 Kids Edition.

The former is the company's first-ever e-reader geared toward a younger audience. The latter is pretty much an improved version of the last year's tablet with child-friendly features, such as a durable case and two-year worry-free guarantee.

Kindle Kids Edition

The new Kindle sports a six-inch e-ink display with 167 ppi and an adjustable front light. As is typical of Kindle readers, it lasts for weeks on a single charge, rather than just days.

Priced at $109.99, the Kindle Kids Edition is $20 more expensive than the standard Kindle, but that additional cost adds a two-year worry-free guarantee and a one-year subscription to FreeTime Unlimited to the mix, as well as one of four colorful cases, two of which have playful designs: blue, pink, Rainbow Birds, and Space Station.

For the uninitiated, FreeTime Unlimited is arguably its biggest selling point. That's because parents won't have to worry about their kids making accidental purchases or viewing inappropriate content while at the same time giving them access to thousands of books, such as the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series, to name a few. Normally, it costs $4.99 or $2.99 with a Prime membership.

It also has other features aimed at young readers, such as Word Wise that shows simple definitions over difficult words and Achievement Badges that can encourage them to meet their reading goals.

The Kindle Kids Edition is already available for preorder, and it's expected to start shipping out on Oct. 30.

All-New Fire HD 10 Kids Edition

The new Kids Edition of the Fire HD 10 comes with a 10.1-inch Full HD display (1,920 x 1,200, 224 ppi) and a new speedier octa-core 2.0 GHz processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. On top of that, it has a bigger battery compared with the previous version, with Amazon touting it can last up to 12 hours of mixed use.

Storage won't be an issue either, as it's equipped with either 32 or 64 GB of built-in space that's expandable by up to 512 GB with a microSD card. Another improvement that stands out is its new USB-C port, which makes it easier for kids to connect it to a charger.

As it's a Kids Edition, it's also bundled with a kid-friendly case with an adjustable stand, a year of FreeTime Unlimited, and the usual two-year worry-free guarantee.

The All-New Fire HD 10 Kids Edition is priced at $199.99 and comes in pink, purple, or blue. It's already up for preorder, and it's expected to ship out on Oct. 30.

The standard model, aka the non-Kids Edition, is also getting the same enhancements, from the processor to the USB-C port, just to be clear.
