Dark mode support has been a trend for quite a while now. For starters, a darker theme is battery-efficient, plus it's easier on the eyes.

Now, Instagram is going dark too as it finally rolls out the long-awaited dark mode for iOS and Android.

Instagram Dark Mode Support

Like other apps that support dark mode, Instagram features a sleeker-looking black-and-gray theme throughout the app. Instagram's dark theme also supports the system-wide dark mode on iOS 13 and Android 10, a feature that — once turned on — will automatically switch all compatible apps to dark mode.

iOS 13 and Android 10 users will start seeing the darker version of Instagram as the update rolls out this week. Adam Mosseri, the photo-sharing app's head, shared the news on Twitter late Monday.

The Facebook-owned app has been making a lot of changes recently. Earlier this week, Instagram confirmed that it's removing the Following tab for good. It's a lesser-known feature that shows the activities of the people a user is following. This update will start rolling out to everyone in the coming weeks, and once it takes effect, users will only see their own activity under the Heart icon.

How To Enable Instagram's Dark Mode

For users on iOS 13, head on to the Settings menu and select Display and Brightness. From there, just tap the Dark option. Instagram will then apply the dark mode in the app. Those who want to apply the darker theme only during a specific time of the day can toggle the Automatic option. In this setting, Instagram will switch from light mode to dark mode at a certain time.

For Android 10, users can turn on the system-wide dark mode option in the Settings menu under the Display option. Just tap on the Advanced option. The dark mode can be found in the theme settings.
