Google will be testing its Voice Match feature as a part of a limited pilot program that can secure purchases made through Google's Assistant feature. According to The Verge's latest report, Google confirmed that the functionality is new and specifically designed to boost the security features that will ensure the safety of the users' purchases made on smart displays and smart speakers.

One of the company's spokesperson stated that Google Assistant's Voice Match feature is currently restricted to in-app digital purchases made through Google Play, including restaurant orders. The new feature of Google Assistant was first spotted in the Assistant's Payments and the Security settings pane.

According to the report, when you follow the provided steps and instructions on Google's support page to enable the new feature, an option to allow the assistant to's existing face to unlock or fingerprint security methods might be the available one. Reports were received stating the users can view the Voice Match menu option but are unable to turn it on since the software freezes whenever they try to enable the new feature.

Google's limited pilot program will test its Voice Matching feature to secure Google Assistant purchases

According to the report of The Verge, the Android Police provided a copy of the screenshots that reveal the step process and how does the new feature look like.

"Use your voice to verify it's you when making a purchase with your Assistant," the software reads on the screenshot acquired by the Android Police.

The new software also might be confirmed by a similar voice of another individual, or a recording, on the devices that the users are logged into. It serves as a warning that the feature's security may not be perfect and malicious activities can still happen.

However, purchase made through Google Assistant can be safer if the voice of an individual is used as a security feature compare to using the device to respond to face unlock prompt or fingerprint feature. The Google Assistant's Voice Match will also allow its users to access a PIN that will protect their purchases using their voice, making the new feature more convenient than Alexa's existing security method.

Google Assistant can tell the difference between the owner's voice and another person's voice with the help of its new Voice Match feature. Last month, the Voice Match training process was updated by the company to allow Google to identify people with significantly higher accuracy.

But, there are still reports confirming how much money an individual can spend, using only their voice as a security feature, currently has limits. There are rumors that the company is hoping to debut the new feature on Google I/O 2020 developer conference since it has been scheduled to take place earlier this month. However, there is no confirmation yet whether a wider release can be implemented on the purchases processed through Google Assistant's Voice Match.
