While there's barely any information online regarding where Elon Musk's face scar come from, there's reason enough to believe that this could have come from his childhood years. Pictures uploaded on Quora showed that even as a kid, the moon shaped scar on his cheek was already present. This theory was also topped by how Elon Musk would describe his childhood as a tough one growing up in South Africa.

How was Elon Musk's life growing up in South Africa according to his mother?

According to his mother in a statement to Esquire, she has two brilliant children but Elon Musk stands out as a genius. Both Elon's siblings Tosco and Kimbal were referred to his mother as being explainable pretty well but when it came to Elon, she couldn't explain him.

Elon's mother previously worked as a dietitian as well as a fashion model while her husband, Elon's father Errol, was an engineer and also what a family member similarly described as a "serial entrepreneur". It was said that they sent Elon to school much early in Pretoria but due to being both the youngest as well as smallest person in school, he then found himself in conflict with what seemed to be not just other children but also South Africa itself.

Kimbal then described South African culture as a pretty rough culture and that other kids were really giving Elon a hard time which then had a huge impact on his own life. It was also stated by Tosca that due to no available recourse, in South Africa, if a person is getting bullied, he still has to go to school. He said that Elon hated waking up in the morning having to go to school.

Elon Musk's previous C5-C6 spinal cord surgery: one reportedly failed attempt

In addition, Elon Musk revealed that he had actually gone through a C5-C6 spinal cord surgery wherein the first one reportedly failed. This conversation was prompted by a certain Twitter user called Andy Phillips who had noticed the said scar located somewhere on Elon Musk's neck. Philips' curiosity with the scar was prompted by having a similar scar on his neck. This led to the question of if Elon Musk had ever gone through surgery.

Elon Musk then explained that he previously actually had a Mobi-C, a particular type of cervical disc prosthesis, that was previously put in his known C5-C6 segment of the spinal cord.

Although there is no official story as to where the scar originated, the closest bet, since his childhood pictures included the scar, would be that they actually happened when he was still in South Africa and when he was still very young.
