For the last few months, the Parler app had been the talk of the town, especially by people who are finding Twitter and Facebook to be a little overwhelming and sometimes even a tad bit toxic, but as soon as it drew more attention, the up and coming social media network was soon banned from Google, Apple, and even Amazon's services.

Due to the Parler ban, older Parlor app got instant fame.

Parler With an 'E'

According to CNET, the big three companies have decided to remove the Parler app from their app stores and service due to its reported role in the Capitol attack that happened last week.

Based on the reports, there have been violent comments roaming around the Parler app even before the Capitol attack happened, so until the company can provide better moderation, the app will not appear on major web services and app stores.

With the issue surrounding the app, one rather old application is reaping the benefits

As it turns out, there are tons of curious people, but most of them appeared to be confused about the app, and instead of searching Parler app, ended up downloading an app called Parlor, one with an "o" instead of an "e."

Due to this confusion, the app had become the second most downloaded free app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, according to Mashable.

The Sudden Rise of Parlor App

Parlor had been around for 10 years and is a "social talking app," wherein users can log in and use the platform to talk to strangers about almost anything under the sun.

According to data, the app had been downloaded 40,000 times as of December 2020.

Nevertheless, the app gained so much more attention due to Parler's ban, and this January, it has reached more than a million downloads on Play Store alone, largely due to people confusing it for the banned app.

Although Parlor won't probably be banned from the services, some confused searchers might have been surprised to see that the app wasn't what they thought it would be.

Working on Its Moderation Features

However, until Parler fixes the issues with its moderation, these curious folks may not be able to download the software for a while--but the support it acquired before the ban was massive, as TechCrunch reported that it has become the number 1 app on App Store this Sunday, January 10, 2021.

The news outlet said that it had seen around 210,000 downloads on Friday, January 8.

"In the U.S., the app saw approximately 182,000 first-time downloads on 1/8, up 355% from about 40,000 installs on 1/7. Since Wednesday, the app has seen approximately 268,000 installs from across U.S. app stores," a representative from Sensor Tower told the outlet.

Besides Parler, another conservative-backed service, Gab, has apparently seen more signups quite recently as well.

Amid the move against Parler, chief executive John Matze said that they are now working to improve its content moderation feature and that they "do not condone or accept violence" in their platform and that they never will.

Apple, Google, and Amazon did not comment any further.
