"Battlefield" is back, dudes.

The next installment of the long-running "Battlefield" series from Electronic Arts and DICE is set to be officially revealed on June 9. This information is as official as they come since it came directly from the official "Battlefield" Twitter page:

PCGamer reports that the reveal is going to occur very early, at 7:00 A.M. PDT / 4:00 P.M. CST, so if you're in the prior time zone, get your alarm clock and some coffee ready. Electronic Arts and DICE might also finally announce the game's actual name since it still has no official title as of yet. But for now, let's call it "Battlefield 6."

It's worth noting that the development team has repeatedly been teasing the next "Battlefield" game since early this year, with a blog post on the EA website detailing a lot of new and exciting things fans can expect from the game. According to DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson, the game will be offering a "jaw-dropping" experience full of "crazy, unexpected moments" and "game-changing destruction."

Those were the exact words used on the blog, and it seems like even the devs can't wait to showcase a lot of things, which might even include actual gameplay.

'Battlefield 6': Exclusive to Next-Gen?

Leading up to June 9, there have been a lot of rumors concerning "Battlefield 6." Some of the most notable included claiming that the game will be a cross-generation title, meaning it will also be released on last-gen PS4 and Xbox One. But according to the aforementioned EA blog post, this isn't true.

If, however, the upcoming "Battlefield" game is indeed going to be exclusive to next-gen consoles and PC only, then it makes a lot of sense. Electronic Arts and DICE are promising "game-changing destruction" and a massive online player count, so they're going to need the power of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and modern gaming PCs. The PS4 and Xbox One are still pretty good by today's standards, but they pale in comparison to their current-generation counterparts.

It looks like "Battlefield 6" will offer an insane graphical and gameplay improvement from its predecessor, given the marketing buzzwords. Sky-high resolutions up to 4K and even 8K, silky-smooth frame rates, and ray tracing. There are still no videos yet, but if an insider's claim is to be believed (leaker Tom Henderson claimed that the game "looks like a movie"), then it's going to look bonkers on the pretty powerful hardware of next-gen.

World War 3 Setting?

Think back to the first two current-gen games of the series: "Battlefield 1" and "Battlefield V." See the pattern? BF1 was set in World War 1, and BFV was set in World War 2. This gave a lot of internet sleuths the idea that the next installment MUST be set in WW3.

A recent article by GameRant points out this rumor, which again came from leaker Tom Henderson. In his Twitter page, Henderson claimed that the events of BF6 occur shortly after those of BF4, which he claims is "the next world war." The U.S. and Russia are the main superpowers (of course), and the campaign's story centers on the player character being a part of an elite unit hired by either of the two nations.

Everything's going to come to a head in a few days, so watch out for the showcase.
