The PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT spotted online selling for almost twice it's SRP! While the GPU has been hunted down and resold for extremely high prices, it's hard to justify that the GPU is being sold with a 100% markup is something that gamers would still be okay with buying.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Price

As of the moment, gamers are out of luck if they plan to buy the GPU at SRP. Due to scalpers buying out any available restock the moment they become available, it could be extremely difficult for gamers to purchase these GPUs at a fair price.

The PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT isn't the only chip that is struggling as of the moment, CPUs are also being sold at markup prices. The good thing about CPU scalper prices, however, is that they haven't saturated to the level of GPU markup prices. Currently, it is more possible to buy a CPU closer to its original price compared to a GPU.

Global Chip Shortage

The AMD Ryzen 9 5900X is one example of a chip that has been sold at higher prices. Although the difference is still very significant, luckily, it isn't overly saturated as the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. The GPU was actually supposed to be a "budget" solution to the more expensive AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT chips but sadly, scalpers have ruined the market for this GPU as well.

PC parts aren't the only electronics affected by the wide scarcity of peripherals caused by the global chip shortage. Sony's PS5 restock and Microsoft's Xbox Series X restock have also been greatly affected by the shortage. The difference, however, is that PS5 and Xbox Series X buyers actually have a better chance compared to GPU buyers.

PS5 Restock Tracker

Bloomberg details how scalpers have been using bots to buy the PS5 restock. The same is true for GPUs and other computer parts. The difference, however, is that GPUs do not just cater to casual or even competitive gamers, GPUs are also sought after by crypto miners.

Economist suggests that crypto miners could be to blame for the ongoing GPU shortage in the market. Due to the massive requirement of GPUs for crypto mining, miners are responsible for a chunk of GPUs no longer available to gamers.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT SRP

As of the moment, even restrock trackers give notifications of GPUs being sold at steep prices. A recent notification was for a PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT sold on Amazon for a whopping $939.99.

According to an article by The Verge, the original SRP for the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is at $479.99. This would put the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT selling on Amazon at a massive $460 compared to the original price. As of the moment, buyers are left with a decision, either wait for the stock to normalize (which could take a while), wait for a good deal, or give in to scalper prices.
