HONG KONG, CHINA - 2021/01/21: Japanese video gaming system brand created and owned by Sony Computer Entertainment, PlayStation 5, is seen at its official store in Hong Kong.

Remember that getting the maximum possible connection for your gaming console will help you get the most out of it.

2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wifi: Pros and Cons

Before anything else, it is important to note that choosing between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz has both advantages and downsides.

As per Century Link, the main advantage of connecting to the 2.4Ghz option is its wide coverage area, which passes through solid obstructions, such as furnitures or even a wall.

Ethernet cables are seen running from the back of a wireless router in Washington, DC on March 21, 2019.

However, it does not mean that the internet will be stable enough when a user is quite far away from the router. It is still prone to interference as more technology uses the 2.4Ghz frequency aside from the Wifi connection.

Not to mention that this bandwidth only supports 150 Mbps as the maximum speed.

On the other hand, the primary advantage of a 5Ghz connection lies in its ability to transfer a higher data rate of up to 1Gbps. It also has fewer devices interfering as there is a shortlist of tech that utilizes the same band.

But the biggest downside of the faster band connection is its subpar performance in penetrating walls due to its higher frequency. Thus, this band reaches a smaller area.

So, it is best to place your PS5 near the router if you're opting for this bandwidth to ensure uninterrupted gaming.

PS5: How to Forcibly Connect it to 5Ghz Wifi?

Sure, PS5 supports 5Ghz Wifi. However, some routers automatically assign your device to the band that it deems the best without any separate names for it. As such, you'll never predict if the gaming console or any device is going to connect to a 2.4Ghz or the ideal 5Ghz.

To get away from these kinds of annoyances, there is an option within the gaming console settings that provides a solution to it.

According to Android Central, the PS5 could be set to forcibly to only connect to a 5Ghz Wifi connection.

Without any further ado, here's how to manually choose the bandwidth to which the PS5 connects.

  • Select the gear icon on the upper right corner of the PS5 interface.
  • Click on Network from the list of options.
  • Then, choose Set Up Internet Connection.
  • Wait for the console to scan for the connection.
  • Click the Options button.
  • Select Wifi Frequency Bands within the popup menu.
  • Choose the 5 GHz option.
  • Go back to the main menu to apply the new settings.

Elsewhere, the "Ghostwire Tokyo" is reportedly delaying its release on PS5 as the developer prioritizes the well-being of its team.
