"Cyberpunk 2077" finally got its long-awaited next-gen upgrade, but it looks like PS5 owners got the short end of the stick.

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - 2020/12/24: Promotional materials Cyberpunk 2077 in the store seen displayed two weeks after the start of sales of Cyberpunk 2077.

According to a report by IGN, some "Cyberpunk" players on Sony's new console can't upgrade their game to next-gen due to region lock issues. Apparently, most of these users are based in Europe, who are reporting that the disc copy of the game has a different region code from where they live.

For now, one of the workarounds they can try is to create a new PlayStation Network profile with the right region code for the game. However, this is way too much of a hassle and can mean you could lose your prior save, as the "Cyberpunk" next-gen upgrade allows for save transfers between the PS4 and PS5.

Developer CD Projekt Red has claimed that they're aware of the issue in a support page, but don't really give out directions on how to fix the problem. For now, CDPR confirmed that PS5 players can only get the free next-gen upgrade if the region of the disc's code matches their PSN account's region.

But this isn't the only problem that PlayStation 5 owners are having with the newly released next-gen upgrade.

GamesRadar reports that the update won't even download automatically on the console. Basically, it means that you need to download the upgrade manually if you're not region-locked like the aforementioned users based in Europe.

CDPR advises that those who have the PS4 version of the game installed will need to get the update from their library. You'll need to find the icon with the PS5 logo to get the update and install it. But before you do that, you might need to free up some space first-assuming you have a lot of games installed.

In a report by DSOGaming, Patch 1.5 is roughly 50GB in size. This is quite massive for a next-gen upgrade, though well-warranted as it brings a lot of improvements, new content, and even complete overhauls to the last-gen version of the game. So start freeing that space if you want to re-experience Night City in next-gen.

'Cyberpunk 2077' Players On Xbox Have It A Little Bit Easier

If you really want to get the "Cyberpunk" next-gen upgrade, then you might as well have gotten it on Xbox because it seems like the grass is "greener" over there.

Xbox-related puns aside, players on the Series X and Series S don't seem to have any problems regarding region-locked codes and manual downloads. As per Xbox Wire, the next-gen update for the game will be automatically downloaded and installed to your console. Transferring saves is also far quicker with Microsoft's Smart Delivery feature on the Xbox Series consoles.

But that's not all. Microsoft is also offering a free trial for Xbox players, which allows them to play around 5 hours of the "Cyberpunk" next-gen version on the Series X and Series S.

To see what all the fuss is about, you can go to the Microsoft Store on your Series X or Series S console, and click the Free Trial download button. You'll get 30 days to play the game for free. Despite being a free trial, though, the game will still consume 63GB of space on your console. This could be especially problematic for Xbox Series S owners (unless you have extended storage, that is).
