Some international controversy brewed over at the Miss Universe pageant this week. Certain groups have cried foul at a photo uploaded on the Instagram account of Doron Matalon, Miss Israel, featuring the young beauty with, among other contestants, Saly Greige of Lebanon.

The two countries have technically been at war with each other since 2006. Critics want Greige stripped of her title for making contact with a citizen of an enemy state.

In her defense, Greige said she was aware of the tensions and shared on her Facebook account that she made an effort to avoid Matalon, but the latter "jumped in" suddenly to take a selfie when she was with Miss Japan and Miss Slovenia.

Meanwhile, Matalon posted on her Instagram account that she was "sad" about the photo issue.

Political tensions between Israel and Lebanon cloud their selfie. Whether it was a case of photobombing or not, the backlash may even continue to spill over until the crowning of the new Miss universe on Jan. 25.

The internet has seen other taboo, controversial and thought-proviking selfies in the past. Do you remember some of these eyebrow raising shots?
