New iPhone 14 renders leaked out recently, and it looks like Apple will finally do away with the notch that divided so many fans over the years.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs watches a video of the new iPhone 3G as he delivers the keynote address at the Apple Worldwide Web Developers Conference June 9, 2008 in San Francisco, California. Jobs kicked off the 2008 WWDC conference with a keynote where he announced an upgraded version of the popular iPhone called the iPhone 3G.

TechRadar reports that the renders, which came from so-called "industry sources" (via 91Mobile), do not feature a prominent notch at the top of the screen. Instead, it shows two holes: a pill-shaped one and a round one, which is reminiscent of older iPhone models.

Here is the tweet:

However, there's still not a lot of confidence that these new leaked renders are even real. That's considering another leak, this time reported on by MacRumors, shows imagery similar to that of 91Mobile's-but it obviously features the same notch that has been a staple of Apple's smartphones since the iPhone X.

Here is MacRumors' tweet of an earlier leak:

As you can see there, the alleged renders are presented in similar angles and looks to be done using the same software. One might argue that both renders look "professional" enough, but there's still really no official word on whether they're even real.

That's because anybody with at least basic 3D modeling experience can make these leaked renders with no sweat. But the leaks are indeed part of a slew of others that have been popping up in recent times, including that which says that the upcoming iPhone won't be using a 3nm-based chip.

But assuming that these latest renders are real, then it will be the first time that the notch will be abandoned. For now, however, don't hold your breath as Apple remains mum about details on the iPhone 14 ahead of its expected release on October 31st of this year (via GadgetsNow).

The Deal With The iPhone 14 Notch-Or Lack Thereof

As previously mentioned, Apple's iPhones have had the ubiquitous notch since the iPhone X. But the presence of it has been a moot point among users for years, and it recently blew up again with the iPhone 13.

The Cupertino tech giant finally reduced the size of the notch by 20 percent for the current-gen smartphone, but it was still not enough for some. As per an article by The Verge, however, acceptance of the notch is still mixed at this day and age. Some people are fine with it, while others just plain hate it.

However, there is perhaps a good reason why Apple has gone with the notch on iPhones for the past four years or so. According to PCWord, the notch is a deliberate design technique to achieve a better screen-to-body ratio in a phone. With it, the user gets increased screen space without making the phone unusually large.

You can see this in most modern smartphones too, and not just iPhones. They have become relatively smaller, while also offering bigger screen sizes than they would have in the past. And as per PC World, it tends to be easier to sell a phone if it has more screen space than the competition.
