Google Home Speaker and Music Streaming Apps

Thankfully, Google allows its users to manually set the default streaming app on these devices to make the experience more seamless, as per an online article by MakeUseOf.

Once it is set, the Google Home or Google Nest will automatically start playing songs from your default music app.

As such, when you use the virtual assistant of the search engine giant on these smart home devices, it will automatically play music from your preferred app.

However, it is worth noting that it would only work if the Google device supports the streaming service that you want to set a default.

But don't fret as most massively popular music streaming services like Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music, not to mention other apps like Deezer and Pandora are supported by these Google devices, according to the support page of Google Assistant.

It also supports other radio and music-related apps.

The only exception from the giant services is Amazon Music, which is owned by the tech giant behind smart home devices that directly competes with the Google Home and Google Nest.

Nevertheless, MakeUseOf noted in the same report that Amazon Music is not entirely unusable in these Google devices.

However, there is no way to set it as a default streaming service. Instead, Amazon Music users will have to use the Google Nest or Google Home by connecting to its Bluetooth speaker functionalities.
