Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of Samsung Wallet[1], a new platform that enables Galaxy users to organize digital keys, boarding passes, identification cards and more, in one, easy-to-use and secure mobile application. Samsung Wallet is protected by defense-grade security from Samsung Knox and takes advantage of an open Galaxy ecosystem by integrating with Samsung Blockchain Wallet to easily monitor cryptocurrencies, and SmartThings to unlock doors.

More Than a Payment Service

Samsung Wallet gives users a refined interface and one-swipe access to their payment cards, loyalty and membership cards and more[2]. Samsung Wallet also incorporates the functionality of Samsung Pass which securely stores passwords and enables users to quickly and easily log into apps and services[3]. It even helps users quickly monitor their digital asset portfolio by checking the value of their cryptocurrencies across various exchanges[4] in one place. Later this year, Samsung Wallet will also begin to support official IDs, such as mobile driver's licenses and student IDs[5]. Other important documentation, such as proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, can also be securely stored in Samsung Wallet.

Convenient Access to Home and Transportation

With the integration of SmartThings and Samsung's partnerships with 9 home security companies[6], users can easily add digital home keys to conveniently lock and unlock their doors with a Galaxy device. Samsung Wallet also supports digital automobile keys on select BMW, Genesis, and Hyundai models[7] which let users lock and unlock cars, start engines, and more. Initially available for models like the BMW 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 Series, 5-X7, and iX models launched after July 2020, the functionality is also available on Hyundai Palisade, Genesis GV60, and G90, with additional automaker partnerships expected.

Samsung's initial partnership with Korean Air allows Korean Air boarding passes[8] to be stored in the Samsung Wallet for easy access, making it as simple to board a flight as it is to sign into an online account. 

As secure as it is simple, protected by Samsung Knox

Samsung Wallet is protected by defense-grade security platform Samsung Knox. Protections include fingerprint recognition and encryption which help safeguard users' sensitive data, so only the device owners can access their important information. Along with Samsung Knox, certain key sensitive items in Samsung Wallet are stored in an isolated environment - the embedded Secure Element, which also helps protect against digital and physical hacking.

Availability

In addition to the US, Galaxy users in five markets[9] - France, Germany Italy, Spain, and the UK, can simply open Samsung Pay or Samsung Pass app from their eligible Galaxy devices[10] and follow prompt to update and migrate to Samsung Wallet, or visit the Galaxy Store to learn more.
