On Friday, July 1, U.S. President Joe Biden announced the names of the Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients. There are 17 recipients, and one of them is the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs to Get Presidential Medal of Freedom

According to CNBC, the award is the highest civilian honor in the United States, and the White House described the recipients as people who "embody the soul of the nation."

Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in 1975. He helped develop some of Apple's first mainstream personal computers before he resigned from the company in 1985.

In 1997, Jobs rejoined the company and led the development of products, including the iPhone and iPod. He was also a co-founder of Pixar, the animated movie studio now under Disney.

Jobs passed away in 2011 at the age of 56 after battling cancer.

The White House said in a statement that Job's vision, imagination, and creativity have "led to inventions that have, and continue to, change the way the world communicates" and that Jobs has transformed the music, computer, film, and wireless industries.

The White House will present the awards on July 7, according to The Verge.

The other recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom that was announced on July 1 include Former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, and Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles. Late U.S. Senator John McCain, World Cup and Olympic soccer champion Megan Rapinoe, actor Denzel Washington and late AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.

Apple's 10-Year Plan

After Jobs' death, Tim Cook took over as Apple's CEO. At a developer conference in early 2022, Cook and the rest of the Apple executives revealed the company's roadmap.

Instead of launching new products and gadgets, Apple focused on showing the company's Trojan-hours strategy at the WWDC conference, according to Futurism.

The company plans to sneak the seeds for the next breed of technology products into the devices that we are all already using.

Apple is working on both augmented and virtual reality. The company is offering a new set of tools in the coming macOS Sierra software that it says will let developers connect V.R. headsets to create 3D and V.R. content.

The tech giant is also working on Homepod computing and iOS 11 iPad.

Apple's Recent Awards

In March, Apple made history after its original move "CODA" got three Academy Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, with wins for Best Supporting Actor for Troy Kotsur, Best Adapted Screenplay for Sian Heder, and Best Picture.

The winners were revealed at the 94th Annual Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, California.

The Apple original film has received several history-making accolades since its debut, becoming the first motion picture with a predominantly Deaf cast to win a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Since the launch of Apple TV+ in 2020, Apple's series and films have won 240 awards and scored 953 nominations, including recognition from the Academy Awards, BAFTA Film Awards, SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Critics Choice Documentary Awards, Daytime, and Primetime Emmy Awards, and more.
