Slack's free plan is changing how it saves messages, as its Pro subscription plan increases its prices.

It is the first-ever price hike for the workplace chatting platform since it debuted way back in 2014.

Slack Free Plan Changes How it Saves Messages

As per the latest news story by Tech Crunch, the messaging service, Slack, is updating how its free plan saves its messages, along with its latest price hike for its paid tier.

That said, free plan users of Slack would see changes in how the messaging service stores their messages on the platform.

Tech Crunch notes in its report that the free version of the workplace messaging platform used to store around 10,000 messages before it starts deleting them. It is on top of the 5 GB worth of uploaded files.

But this time, Slack has decided to implement a new rule on how it saves the messages of its free users.

Instead of limiting their number of messages and how big their uploaded files were, the free version of Slack would now base it on time.

And as such, the workplace messaging service would only show messages and uploads in the last 90 days before it starts vanishing.

It means that even if your uploads have not reached more than 5 GB or you only sent a few messages to your colleagues, it would automatically be deleted.

However, this also allows its free users to go beyond the previous limits of the non-paid tier.

That said, users could now store massive file uploads and send unlimited messages. But it should be noted that these would vanish into thin air after 90 days have passed.

Slack says in its recent blog post that it simplifies the plan limits of its free users.

The change in the free plan would no longer keep its free users guessing whether they have already exceeded their limits.

The blog post highlights that "no matter how much your free team uses Slack, you'll always have access to 90 days of history."

Slack Price Hike

Besides the changes in its free plan, Slack is also updating the pricing of its paid "Pro" subscription option.

The price hike of the paid subscription to Slack differs depending if you are paying annually or monthly.

Starting September 1, the monthly subscription fee of the Slack Pro plans is seeing an increase to $8.75, according to a recent report by Reuters.

Meanwhile, the annual version of Pro plans is hiking its price between $6.67 to $7.25 in the United States.
