General Motors is giving new Chevy Bolt EV buyers a $6,000 discount when buying the new electric vehicles, but it is not forgetting the previous owners that bought it earlier. Its previous battery fire risk recalls and fixes provided the past a massive problem then, and GM wants to compensate them for it, provided that they are eligible and agree to the terms.

Old owners of the Chevy Bolt EV are to get rebates for the car, and it will also amount to $6,000 provided they agree to GM's terms.

Jalopnik first reported that it spotted an offer from GM regarding the Chevy Bolt EV, and it offers a $6,000 compensation for owners that saw the effects of its battery fire risks in the past. However, it is with a catch, and the eligible drivers that applied for it would have to face a waiver that will no longer put GM or Chevy on the hot seat.

What does it mean?

It means that the Bolt EV owners no longer have the right to sue GM for any further or existing issues regarding the vehicle, especially about its batteries.

Users eligible for the compensation would get the payment from the company if they agree with GM's condition for the rebate, experiencing what new EV owners would have in buying a new Chevy Bolt EV.

Chevy Bolt EV: $6,000 Discount for New Owners

Alongside this rebate is a reported price decrease or discount for all the new owners that are to purchase the Chevy Bolt EV, and it also amounts to $6,000. According to Electrek, the new EV coming from GM will see a $6,000 price reduction which is uncommon now, especially during a time when prices are rising from other manufacturers, even felt by the company.

GM and Chevy Bolt EV's Battery Fire Risk

GM previously asked the owners of the Chevrolet Bolt EV several observations that would help in making their cars usable and accessible until the time they are ready for a recall.

Here, users had to charge to a certain percentage only, keep the vehicle away from the Sun's direct shine, and avoid draining its batteries to avoid any battery combustions.

The company did not immediately recall the EV for the public and provided them with different practices to avoid the combustion of their vehicles, especially as it is a widespread problem with its power cells.

LG Energy Solutions created the batteries for GM, and the company had to provide software updates before focusing on its recall.

Nevertheless, the problem got a fix by both GM and LG via a recall.

Now, the EV owners that saw its recall and had to go for a long time without their full use of the electric car were complaining that they bought the Bolt with significant problems but no discounts. GM is focusing on a rebate for them, but it waives their right to sue the company if ever any problems occur in the future.
