Celestis is now set to bring the remains of "Star Trek" veteran cast and crew, including Nichelle Nichols, to deep space aboard the United Launch Alliance's Vulcan Centaur that is currently in development. The mission is called the "Enterprise Flight," a fitting name that pays homage to the "USS Enterprise" spacecraft that carried the crew to daring missions in the films and television series.

These classic "Star Trek" veterans that gave the franchise its face and significance in the pop culture industry will get commemoration that is fit to their contributions to the world.

Celestis is giving the world a new Memorial Spaceflight mission with its latest venture with United Launch Alliance, and it is focusing on carrying "Star Trek" veterans' ashes to deep space and commemorating their legacy.

The new mission is called the "Enterprise Flight," and one of its key focuses is to pay tribute to Nichelle Nichols, known for her role in the original "Star Trek" series as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura.

Celestis' page offers more than flight details to the world. It also allows the public to send fan tributes for the departed cast and crew of the original film franchise, mainly for Nichols, who passed last July 30.

According to The Verge, Kyle Johnson, Nichol's son, provided his parent's ashes to Celestis for this mission.

'Enterprise Flight' Mission Carries Nichelle Nichols As Well

The main goal of the Enterprise Flight mission is to carry the ashes and remains of the departed cast and crew of the original "Star Trek" and take them to deep space with ULA's Vulcan Centaur. The spacecraft is still under production from ULA, without any specific completion.

The mission is also open-dated for its upcoming launch. Still, Celestis said it would happen this year and launch the remains of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and his wife, Majel Barrett, James Doohan, and the visual effects artist Douglas Trumbull.

'Star Trek' Going to Space in Real-Life

One of the most notable missions to bring 'Star Trek' cast members to space have been in several ventures and flights already, with different missions aiming to give them a chance to go to space in real-life. Last year, Blue Origin brought "Star Trek's" Captain James T. Kirk, William Shatner, to orbit aboard its crew ship, being the oldest person to go to space.

Another special mission for an Enterprise crew member is with NASA's Sofia observatory aircraft that, while it does not venture to space, flies high in the skies to see deep space from the vehicle. NASA brought Nichelle Nichols to fly with the Sofia aircraft and gave the then 82-year-old veteran actress to experience the closest there is to space apart from her "Star Trek" role.

New ventures still aim to give known figures in pop culture a chance to go to space, despite their departure from the world of living in the present.

Crew members and artists may be gone, which were key to giving life to one of the media industry's most notable sci-fi franchises, but they are not forgotten in this new venture from Celestis and ULA. Their memories and contributions live on, and this upcoming spaceflight will bring them an appropriate memorialization that marks their venture to space soon.
