This picture taken in Moscow on March 19, 2022 shows logos of YouTube social media on a smartphone screen. - Russia's regulator on Friday accused the US giant Google and its video service YouTube of "terrorist" activities, the first step towards a possible blocking of the site as Twitter, Instagram and several media outlets have been in recent weeks.

A tweet posted by NetBlocks also confirmed that the website is down and said that the problem is not related to internet problems.

Black screens with a loading animation with a note "please try again later" was seen on YouTube streams when attempted to open. The Sun also reported that some people were able to access these but experienced a laggy stream with 'buggy' live chat.

A certain video game streamer switched to Twitch as they experienced the problem. These are the tweets under the #YouTubeDown hashtag on Twitter that several users complained about regarding the issue.

Percentage of Reports

Downdetector revealed that 77% or thousand of reports from different users experienced problems in live streaming. A certain person from the comment section of the site stated. "I went to four streams and they were putting in the buffering symbol."

Fortunately, YouTube has no longer any current problems as shown in Downdetector.

YouTube's Response

As of the moment, YouTube has not released any detailed information regarding the incident. No confirmations if the maintenance is caused by the platform's servers or malicious activity.

YouTube stated on Google Support that the problem was acknowledged and hopes that this will not happen again as they work on a "permanent fix."

At around 1:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, the outage has been fixed by YouTube and tweeted on their @YoutubeTeam official Twitter account thanking the users who reported the incident and promising to update on the Twitter thread as they investigate the outage.

#YouTubeDown Last Year

Last year, YouTube also experienced an outage together with Gmail and Google Search. The platform was acquired by Google worth $1.6 billion in 2005 which is not surprising for these three to experience an outage at the same time.

Endless loading of videos during the outage was experienced by many users and a "Report the Issue" note has appeared on their screens.

Some users were still able to access the services from these platforms despite being down for hours. But just like what happened today, YouTube did not reveal any confirmation on how the problem occurred and how big the problem is.

It was later on revealed that the affected users of these problems were mostly from Europe.
