After confirming a few months ago, Netflix will be launching its live-streaming feature, as they debut Chris Rock's comedy special. The streaming platform claims that he is about to make history as Rock will be the first artist to perform a live comedy act on Netflix.

Livestreaming on Netflix

Netflix will be launching its first live-streaming content in early 2023. Comedian Chris Rock will be the front man of the show as he debuts a comedy special live worldwide. Strong Black Lead, a Netflix expansion account, confirmed that he will be the first to conduct a live comedy act on the streaming service. Although this will be his first live show, this is not his first time to star in a show on Netflix, as he also launched "Tamborine" in 2018.

As per Variety's report, this will potentially open doors for other programs of the platform to adapt to the live treatment. Previously, it was suggested by many people for Netflix to incorporate live streaming for some of its unscripted shows and stand-up comedy acts via voting from fans.

Netflix Vice President of Stand Up and Comedy Formats Robbie Praw stated that Rock's comedic voice remains both iconic and important to the generation. He added, "We're thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we're so honored that Chris is carrying this torch."

Aside from Tamborine, the comedian also launched several stand-up comedy acts on different platforms. Five specials were released by Rock with HBO including notable shows like "Bigger & Blacker" and "Bring the Pain". Currently, he is on his world tour entitled "Ego Death" and will be coming to several states this year, including California, Texas, and Washington. Some of the shows from this tour will be co-headlined by Chappelle.

Previous Plans

Netflix was just planning to launch the live streaming feature last May, based on a report by Deadline. During these times, it was in the early stages of development. The streaming platform also revealed that aside from unscripted shows and live comedy acts, this feature can be used for competition series and talent contests, especially for live voting.

As per Engadget, this move from Netflix is not a surprise as many of its competitors already have live streaming on their services. Disney+ live-streamed last February the nominations for the Oscars. Aside from this, Dancing With The Stars will also be aired on the platform live. For Sports, Amazon Prime Video has been broadcasting NFL matches every week while Apple TV+ broadcasts Friday Night Baseball.
