Kraft has recalled a massive shipment of its Velveeta Cheesy Skillets product. The company was forced to recall the product due to a failure to disclose that the product could contain soy-based allergens.

In a case of both mislabeling and misbranding, Kraft recalled approximately 1.77 million pounds of its Velveeta Cheesy Skillets. The recall was announced after the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) found that some of the company's pasta and ground beef products contained soy-based ingredients such as dried soy sauce and hydrolyzed soy protein. Many soy-based products are known to cause allergic reactions in certain individuals. While Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets contain these allergens, they should have been clearly indicated in the product's label.

Kraft has a wide range of products but the mislabeling was an isolated incident only involving their Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles - Ultimate Cheeseburger Mac line. The company has already clarified that no other products would be affected by the mislabeling incident.

The FSIS said that the problem started during a mix up with the product labels. While many of the labels from the label manufacturer had the correct labels, a number of erroneous labels were mixed in with the shipment leading to the current problems. Luckily, there were no reported incidents of consumers suffering from an allergic reaction due to the mislabeled products. The FSIS regularly checks shipments from companies included in their mandate and once the agency spots potential problems, it can order a recall to make sure that the offending products are taken off the market to keep consumers safe. Moreover, the agency posts relevant recall information on its official website.

Kraft's Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles -Ultimate Cheeseburger Mac pasta products come in microwaveable containers for easy preparation. These products are shipped in 3.3-pound boxes with each box containing 6 individually packaged units.

For concerned consumers, the affected shipments were shipped out between May of last year and Jan of this year. The affected products also come with expiration dates ranging from March 2 to Oct. 23. Affected consumers can contact the company's customer service lines through the number 1-800-396-5512.
