The social app Gas has been purchased by Discord, and here's how they could potentially incorporate it.

The Gas social app will reportedly continue as its own separate app, according to a Discord blog post, while the Gas crew will join Discord. The acquisition's specifics have not been disclosed. Teenagers have recently grown fond of the poll-based app, which enables internet and real-life friends to complement one another.

More than five million people have downloaded the Gas app, which is exclusively accessible on the Apple App Store right now. It also has more than a million active users.

What Is the Gas Social App?

According to The Verge, Nikita Bier, the creator of the app Gas, previously developed a similar app called Tbh for Facebook in 2017. However, Tbh has since been discontinued.

Gas, which has attracted the attention of more than 1 million daily active users and 30,000 new users per hour in October, is an app where users can complement one another anonymously through a voting system.

Users of Gas register with their institution, add friends, and respond to surveys about their peers. The poll questions, however, are meant to increase users' confidence rather than undermine it. Teenagers may be asked to select one of four peers as the best DJ or smiler.

App users can vote for categories such as "Most attractive student," 'Student who isn't afraid to get in trouble," and more. Since its launch in August, its popularity among high school students has risen. The chosen individual will then receive an anonymous message with a compliment from the anonymous user.

According to data from Sensor Tower, since its debut in the summer of 2022, Gas has amassed 7.4 million installs and approximately $7 million in user revenue. A premium option called "God Mode" is available to customers who choose to subscribe. This tool provides users with suggestions regarding the identity of their secret admirers.

How Will Discord Incorporate Gas Into Its App?

Since the founding of Discord, the app pledged that its mission has been to enable people to build community through fun experiences and genuine connections.

"Gas' founders have a proven track record of creating exciting apps and experiences, and we're thrilled to work with their team to take things to the next level," According to Discord's recent blog post about the Gas acquisition. "At this time, Gas will continue as its own standalone app and the Gas team will be joining Discord to help our efforts to continue to grow across new and core audiences."

Notably, Discord has been known as a platform that is vocal about its intolerance of hate speech and cyberbullying. Although most apps have enhanced security screening to prevent such situations, it could prove insufficient to guarantee user safety.

Additionally, social media sites tend to inflate popularity based only on the number of likes and views. This may significantly impact mental health, so perhaps incorporating Gas to build a more positive community for Discord could prove true.
