Apple MagSafe Duo charger receives its first-ever firmware update since the iPhone accessory saw the light of day in 2020.

It took a while before the renowned tech giant dished out a new update for its wireless charging accessory. But this time, iPhone and Apple Watch users could start getting their hands on it.

Apple MagSafe Duo's First Firmware Update Rolls Out

Apple Insider reports that the Cupertino-based firm typically rolls out firmware updates for its slew of hardware offerings, such as the AirTag and AirPods.

However, in the case of its MagSafe Duo charger, it got its users waiting for a couple of months.

On the other hand, the iPhone maker recently released a firmware update for its non-Duo option MagSafe charger last October. So the tech firm does update its charging accessories from time to time.

According to a report by Mac Rumors, the new firmware update of MagSafe Duo sports version 10M3063.

But do note that the Settings app shows a different code. The latest release should be 256.1067.0, a massive leap from 186.0.0.0.

What's New in the Firmware Update

It is unclear what the new MagSafe Duo update brought, as Apple has yet to publish patch notes for its latest firmware release.

However, Apple Insider notes in its story that firmware updates usually offer security fixes and other optimizations to improve overall performance.

On top of that, the latest update might further expand its support to newer Apple devices, such as the all-new iPhone 14 series and the Apple Watch Series 8, including the Ultra variant.

It remains to be seen if the tech giant plans to release its patch notes. Sometimes the iPhone maker decides to publish them later after rolling out an update.

How to Install Updates on MagSafe Duo

Like most Apple accessories, MagSafe Duo users could only rely on automatic updates to get their hands on the latest firmware release.

It is worth noting that firmware updates automatically roll out when users use their chargers while connected to the power.

And as such, they could not force install a new update manually like how iPhones and Macs work. But they could check the firmware version instead.

To do so, attach your iPhone to your MagSafe Duo charger. From there, head straight to the Settings app, and select the "General" option. Then, tap "About." Scroll down to "Carrier Lock" and select "Apple MagSafe Charger" to check its firmware version.
