Lamborghini debuts its first and latest super sports car with a plug-in hybrid engine, paired with its iconic V12, which it calls the "Revuelto." The famous Italian luxury sports car manufacturer debuts this first-of-its-kind High-Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) that can bring up to six miles of clean energy driving on battery power.

The company's current release is among the pioneers in transforming their supercars into something that taps into clean energy, despite only featuring a minimal performance for its hybrid feature.

The latest press release of Lamborghini proudly announces the Revuelto, the company's first take in making its roaring V-engine-equipped supercars into a plug-in hybrid. The Italian car manufacturer brands this as the HPEV, with emphasis on "electrified," as while it may feature a clean energy factor, it still heavily relies on its V12 engine.

The company debuted the Revuelto as part of its 60th anniversary, which means "scramble" in Italian,

"The new Revuelto is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy," said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman, and CEO.

"It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12 is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mold, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions," Winkelmann added.

Clean Energy Features of the Lamborghini Revuelto

The relatively light engine (480 pounds) pumps out 814 horsepower at a blistering 9,250 rpm, and its partnering lithium-ion high specific power (4500 W/kg) battery pack pumps out 6.2 miles on a full charge. It is one of the hybrids that feature an electric-only drive feature.

The V12 combustion engine adds three electric motors to further support its hybrid needs. According to Engadget, the design is heavily inspired by aerospace engineering.

Lamborghini's Vehicle Development

Supercars or luxury vehicles may not be that concerned about transitioning to clean energy at the moment, but brands like the Volkswagen Group already aim to transition to battery-powered automotive in the present. Being that the likes of LamborghiniAudiPorsche, and Bentley are part of the VW Group, there have been significant developments toward clean energy.

It was previously speculated that Lamborghini is already ending its internal combustion engine lineup in its development of the famed supercars in the world. The reports claimed that the company will center on an exclusive development and distribution of electric-only cars this year, which is different from this year's announcement.

Still, the latest Revuelto proves a point that supercars could also fit two hearts in its hood, one being its roaring V-block engine that is a long-time partner of the vehicle, and a new battery to also bring some mileage to it.

Lamborghini may be stepping up the game with Revuelto despite the minimal range that its new hybrid supercar brings, but this still proves to be a game changer for the company, toward cleaner developments.
