BeReal is currently working on a chat system that will support blocking and reporting features.

According to a report by Engadget on Thursday, June 1, BeReal has been making some noise on social media recently after it announced the upcoming feature on the platform.

BeReal says that users will be able to send private messages to their friends without any time restrictions. Another thing is they could now use BeReal's custom emojis known as RealMoji to leave fancy reactions on chats.

It should be noted that in BeReal, there's no way that you can message somebody whom you are not friends with. If you want to chat with different people, you should first befriend them on the platform.

If you want to remove a message because it's sensitive or harmful, it should happen to both parties. This means that your friend should also delete the chat even if you have already removed it from your app.

Additionally, the messaging app maker notes that the deleted message can still stay in the system within 30 days. It's better to use another chat app with encryption if you want to continue your secret conversation with your loved ones.

BeReal's Messy Approach Has Attracted More Young Users

Chatting with your classmate or your friend on BeReal is easier. You can actually talk to them without typing a comment. This way helps the app to thrive longer to make sure that the user is still active even after a single-time log-in for the day.

Despite starting in 2020, it was only in 2022 that BeReal found a groove in its business. The majority of the users on the platform are millennials and Gen Z people who love the unique approach of the app.

According to TechCrunch, the messy approach of the chat app will prompt you to be real with your friends from time to time. It works by sending a "time to BeReal" notification to the recipient. The requirement is to send a front-and-back photo of yourself within two minutes to your friends. Your friend will know if you edit a post or if you're late.

BeReal braces for big competition with other social media platforms nowadays, including Instagram and Snapchat. Even the Chinese app TikTok is competing with it when it comes to functionality and number of users.

BeReal in Freefall

Back in May, The Guardian described BeReal's fate as a social media app in "freefall." In just seven months, the BeReal users made a huge leap from one million to 20 million. Many people think that it's good to try this anti-Instagram platform, especially if all they want to do all day is to share photos with other users.

The faster its users increased in the past months, the quicker it fell in the succeeding months, particularly between October 2022 and March 2023. BeReal noticed that the number of active users declined from 20 million to six million.

BeReal hopes that its Spotify integration will help it regain its position on top once again. With the launch of Bonus BeReal, the company expects to achieve better results in the next few months.
