Google Opinion Rewards, a popular platform that allows users to earn Google Play Store credit by participating in surveys, is introducing a new and improved feature called receipt tasks.

This update aims to streamline the process of sharing receipts and enhance the overall user experience. While the concept was first tested four years ago, it is now being widely rolled out to a broader audience, according to a report by Android Police.

"Share Receipts and Earn Rewards"

With the latest update, Google Opinion Rewards moves beyond simply scanning receipts. Users will now encounter a new splash screen when receipt tasks become available, prompting them to "Share receipts and earn rewards."

Google emphasizes that these tasks will be assigned after shopping in a physical store and reassures users that their personal information will never be sold, providing a link to the company's privacy policy.

Further explanation within the feature clarifies that Google utilizes recent location history, with user consent, to determine shopping locations and leverages the receipt data to enhance its services and measure the impact of ads on consumer behavior.

Within the Google Opinion Rewards app, users will discover a dedicated section called "Receipt tasks," positioned below the survey section. System notifications and visibility on the app's homepage will notify users of new tasks.

This section allows users to view available tasks and review a brief history of completed scans. To participate, users can either capture a photo directly through the app or upload an existing image.

For users engaging in receipt scanning tasks, it is advisable to develop a habit of promptly snapping a quick picture to have it readily available when a task arises.

Option to View and Delete

In addition, Google provides users with the option to view and delete previously uploaded receipts via the Receipts Manager website. Interestingly, this functionality is not available within the app itself.

It is worth noting that the Receipts Manager website resides on Google Surveys' servers, a service that was discontinued by the company in 2022. Originally designed for businesses conducting surveys through Google Opinion Rewards, the domain continues to serve the needs of Google Opinion Rewards users.

This section of the website also displays receipts uploaded before the introduction of the dedicated receipt tasks section. The practice of occasionally requesting receipt uploads at the end of regular surveys, which was prevalent in the past, appears to be gradually phased out in favor of the new receipt tasks.

The introduction of receipt tasks marks a significant milestone for Google Opinion Rewards. The company initiated testing for this new workflow back in June 2019, followed by the addition of a help page on their servers in 2020.

While the feature has been gradually rolled out to select users over the years, it is now poised to become a staple feature for the broader Google Opinion Rewards community, offering a more streamlined and rewarding experience.

With Google Opinion Rewards' new receipt tasks, users can conveniently earn Play Store credit by sharing their shopping receipts while enjoying enhanced privacy measures and a user-friendly interface.
